Kobuk River Trails Home

Welcome to the Kobuk River Trails website. This site was originally created in 2008 (or so) and has undergone several iterations since. The current version (2025) includes a domain change (now kobukrivertrails.org).

Photos have been added (finally!) from the 2024 gathering, just in time for the 2025 to supercede it! Better late than never, I reckon. The 116 or so images are all ones taken on my iPhone. As with any of the previous years, if you have images that you would like to have displayed here, just send ’em to me. One, or a hundred!

Mark Mortensen captured the most recent 2024 group photo, which has been posted here for a while (below).  Click on this image for the larger version.

Here is a gallery of all the group photos extant from 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2022. Click on the thumbnails to see the full-size images. I recently (again!) scoured every hard drive, phone, and tablet in my possession searching for the group photo from 2010 — without success. If you happen to have the 2010 group photo somewhere in your archives, I would appreciate you sending me a copy.

Now for the real fun: These are albums, hosted on Google Photos, of images from all eight of these gatherings to date – 2006 through 2022. We have always solicited photos from anyone in the group who was taking pictures, whether with a phone or a DSLR, and so most of these galleries are compilations of photos by more (sometimes many more) than one photographer. Therefore no specific credit is given at this time.

Photos by (partial list): Dorene Schiro, Sasha Wik, Barbara MacManus, Mark Mortensen, Randy Smith, Sally McDaniel, Nathan and Mara Curtis, Scott MacManus, and David Fleming. (I know there are others, I also know that $5 and a photo credit here will buy you the better part of a latte anywhere on the planet; even so, if you have contributed photos to any of these albums and would like to be recognized, just let me know – DF)

All the images in the 2022 album #1 are mine, taken on my iPhone12. Nathan and Mara contributed about half the photos in the 2022 album #2, and Scott MacManus contributed the rest. Anyone having images to share from the 2022 and especially the 2024 reunion should please send them to me at d.fleming.az@gmail.com. Or send me a link to your online photo library with permissions to download.

Remember – this site is a work in progress, and bare-bones at the moment. If you have suggestions for improvements, please get in touch.

Enjoy!

“During the day there came a team from Kaltag, and once again we enjoyed the delight of receiving, and at the same time conferring, the richest gift and greatest possible benefit to the traveler — a trail.” Hudson Stuck, “Ten Thousand Miles With A Dogsled”
